Where the ranking signals come from

The first three sources determine the ranking. The others help us identify sites and build their profiles.

Monthly popularity bands based on browsing by participating Chrome users in Ireland, such as top 1,000 or top 5,000. This is the main ranking signal. It does not provide visitor counts.

Tranco research list

A global list of one million domains, combining several rankings. We use it alongside Irish link data to separate sites tied on CrUX history.

Common Crawl web graph open data

A map of links between websites. We count the distinct .ie domains linking to each site and use Common Crawl’s link-based importance ranking as a further tie-breaker.

companycheck.ie used with permission

Company records that link registered Irish businesses to their websites. These help us identify Irish sites using domains such as .com; they do not affect ranking positions.

The sites themselves

Public pages supply profile information such as descriptions, contact details, social links and locations. Profiles list the pages read and when they were checked.

How they are combined

Each CrUX popularity band is assigned points. We rank sites by their average points across the months on record, giving recent months more weight. Ties are resolved by how often a site appears in CrUX, then its monthly bands, starting with the newest.

Sites still tied are ordered using a blend of Tranco rank and links from .ie domains. Any remaining ties use Tranco, then Common Crawl’s link ranking, then alphabetical order. Sites with no CrUX history follow those with it and are ordered using these same tie-breakers.

Positions cover the websites listed on details.ie, overall and within each category and subcategory.

Monthly updates

Averaging CrUX readings reduces sudden jumps, so a sustained change in popularity takes several months to be fully reflected. Missing months are skipped in the average. A newly measured site is scored from its first reading. Tranco uses the median of available readings from the last six months.

Movement over time

Charts show monthly positions overall, within a category or within a subcategory. We recalculate each month using the CrUX history up to that point and historical Tranco and Irish link data where available. Where historical tie-breakers are missing, we use the current order. The latest point matches the published ranking.

Change figures compare the first recorded position with the latest: up means places gained, down means places lost. Small changes appear in grey. A site can move because other sites rise or fall, even when its own popularity stays steady.

Categories

Each profiled site is assigned to one of 22 categories based on its content, with at most one subcategory. Classification is automatic; uncertain cases go in "Other". Category rankings and change figures compare sites within that category.

Which sites get a page

We list .ie websites and sites on other domains where company registration or browsing data provides evidence of an Irish connection. Profiles show that evidence. We also add domains manually for consideration; the same ranking and publication rules apply.

A site must resolve and provide enough information for a useful profile. Profiles with limited information remain accessible but are excluded from search indexing and carry no advertising.

A fall in rank or a temporary outage does not remove a profile. Repeated domain failures can mark it as dormant. Profiles can also be removed on request or by editorial decision.

Corrections and removals

If a profile is wrong, tell us and we'll fix it. If you would rather not be listed at all, see remove my details. Removal is permanent and we do not ask for a reason. Either way: contact@details.ie.
